Went through most of it. Just a casual run with a buddy for Halloween. Topped off around 184 percent in 8 hours.

If you're not trying to do a perfect map/encyclopedia run, then yeah... it's a pretty short but amazing game.

Did you 200.6% it? or just straight through to the end?

Finished my annual SotN run. Never realized how short the game is.

You're a frankenrule.

Cool story, bro. But it sounds you weren't actually playing AD&D. Possibly some frankenrule game? Don't know, don't care. AD&D is the one with THAC0 and strict rules on back attacks, as mentioned.

And I told you (I keep hitting enter, sorry) that it was stuck in a cave. I was on its neck, behind its head. TOTALLY BACK ATTACK. I ended up wearing the head as a hat for awhile before another one swooped me away. I died to the...5th baby pteranodon I had to fight. I rolled I think 3 1s. The session is RIFE with terror due to our poor rolls and lack of a magic user. UNTIL NOW, WHEN I HAVE THE ORANGUTAN MAGIC USER 4/MONK 1 FUFUFUFUFUFUFUFU *throws coconut at sister*

Sorry, we had a DMG. The 4.0 one. So he threw something, and I'm like...but wait, that isn't even A THING.

I wanna see ab doing a no-equipment FFXII Yiazmat fight or something, where you gotta bunch it for eight bajillion hours to win.

Great story. DM should have given you the kill.

Ab would then go on to apply this philosophy to every "unbeatable" boss in every RPG that has them. Just because it's mechanincally impossible to win doesn't mean you can consent to defeat.

I like to think that somewhere, in some alternate universe, to this day he and the Tarrasque are still going at one another, the Tarrasque with a whopping -62 million HP remaining
Abaddon Daemon

It was sort of a defensive struggle. I couldn't do much damage to the tarrasque, but I was also able to either avoid or out-heal all of the attacks coming in on me. so the Tarrasque couldn't kill me, but it was going to take forever for me to kill him. So I think after an hour of this, I just asked him, "Can we just fast-forward this? I'm obviously going to win." That's when he explained to me that the Tarrasque could only be killed by a Wish spell... so techncally I couldn't win. I just also couldn't *lose*. I was upset that he threw a monster at me that he KNEW I couldn't kill, and he was upset that it hadn't KILLED me, like he had planned. So... at that point we sort of unofficially "retired" that character.

So yeah, *eventually* that character became ungodly powerful and collected a ton of epic gear and still had like, 20 Ioun stones hovering around him at all times. So my DM (probably at least partly pissed at himself as much as me) felt like I needed a lesson in humility, so he made me fight the tarrasque. This move came too late probably, because it didn't go the way he thought it would. My character was able to go toe-to-toe with the Tarrasque and hold my own.

so.... Onionknight's exaggerating *only slightly*. My Dungeon Master didn't "give" me any Ioun Stones. he just... made the mistake of having an Ioun Stone vendor. And I'm not sure he realized how broken they were... but I did *immediately*. I think he thought I'd buy one or two and move on, but I emptied my (considerable) bank account on them. Might've even sold some other gear to buy them. He later said it was the dumbest mistake he had ever made as a DM.

I'm so glad they dropped the idea of enemies being immune to sneak attacks. How bad was the tarrasque fight?

well, yeah, if you're playing without a Players Handbook or Dungeon Master's guide, of course your DM is going to do whatever the fork. Like letting your thief sneak attack a pterandon (distinctly non-humanoid, can't be sneak attacked) in its eyes (not technically behind the pterandon) while riding it (it's either retarded or aware of you). And yes, AD&D had ioun stones. Ab's DM gave him a tone before letting him fight the tarrasque

No one has THAC0 tables, for one, and for two, I was riding on its neck because it was stuck in the cave trying to eat us. So technically I'm "behind" it. Also I dropped my dagger so I had to punch it. Also the other teammates at that point were pulling a rope down to keep its head from moving as much. Also also it was in theory a level 3 pteranodon. Also also also wait there are ioun stones in AD&D? First dungeon was..actually, that was the first fight that would be considered in *some* sort of a building, I think.
